62D - Moving in! : August 16th - moving day! Out of 49 Green, into Lakeview. Great condo, great location, and great friends and family who came to help with the move. Thank you thank you thank you to Angie and Dan, Sara and Tony, Jim, Mark, Tom, Kristin, and my parents. The day claimed a foot (Angie really wanted to drop a massive rock on her foot for some reason. See the photos. Ow), a thumb (Tom got between pooh the couch and a doorframe. He's since taken on the responsibility of storing pooh while it waits for another home - hopefully he's able to resist using it for target practice. In his position, I might not), and sadly, the hope that the couch might make it in. No way no how. But, with everyone's help everything else got crammed into the truck and made the trip across town. A few good meals, lots of friends, and a bedroom finished into an island of sanity in a sea of stuff = a good weekend. Some lessons learned: don't dead-lift armoirs up several flights of stairs - take the doors off *and the shelves out* first. Some things really can't turn corners without being chopped in half. Bagels are good food. Mostly, there's no substitute for good friends!

Thanks everyone!! Party to come, watch your inboxes...

Eco Endurance Aventure 2006 : This was my big race for the year - a three day stage race in Quebec about three hours northeast of Montreal. There was an international field of competitors, including teams from Italy, Ireland, France, Brazil, the US, Canada, and Quebec. ;) The winning team, Sole, is consistently ranked in the top five teams in the world, so to be racing on the same course as them is pretty damn impressive if I do say so. (Never mind that their overall time of 27 hours was almost exactly half of our 54. Man, they're fast!)

The course was as beautiful as it was brutal - lots of uphill, lots of distance covered (250k total, give or take a little), lots of (believe it or not) fun to be had. Fun, especially in hindsight. For over 14 hours a day, three days straight we: asked ourselves "why?" many times, drank about 9 litres of water, ate several pounds of sandwiches, clif bars, gu shots, and fruit, and burned about 7000 calories a day. That's a whole lot of energy in and out!

Chris, Drew, Jim and myself raced, John and Michelle ran support. Great race everyone - its funny how much you learn about what you're capable of every time you race. I definitely feel like we performed well as a team, and I'm personally very happy with how it all worked out.

Same time next year?

More info here.

(I'll be making topo maps for each of the days, and in theory I can create elevation profiles, at least for a few of the legs. I'll stick them all here when I've got 'em done...)

BTW - as of 9/1 I've added the pictures taken by the Endurance Aventure folks to the end of the gallery.
